General Motors told employees Friday that the international car maker plans to reopen its Spring Hill manufacturing plant in stages this month following the extended shutdown caused by spreading coronavirus.
Starting today (Monday), workers at the Spring Hill Plant will return to the facility for the first time since the plant shut down the evening of Friday, March 20th in an effort to prevent the virus’ spread.
The local workers were laid off in the shutdown, joining the more than 46,000 who have filed for unemployment in southern Middle Tennessee since the virus took hold of the state in March.
A week later, on Monday May 18th, additional workers will return to the plant’s, stamping, body and paint divisions as well as other departments.
