The Lawrence County E-911 system was attacked by ransomware, leading to a CAD system shutdown on Monday.
Lawrence County Sheriff John Myers confirmed the computer virus  and the the department was unable to do certain things, such as checking license plates for stolen vehicles.
Myers said the department identified the problem as a computer virus, but was unsure what kind it was.
During the shutdown residents in Lawrence County could make 911 calls
Chief Terry Beecham said the operation was ongoing and the department was working on correcting the problem.
