Tennessee's Safer at Home Order will expire on April 30th, with the majority of businesses in 89 of the 95 counties allowed to reopen on May 1st.
The order aiming to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 was initially issued on April 2nd and Governor Lee explained that the change primarily surrounds businesses, and social distancing practices will stay in place.
“Our Economic Recovery Group is working with industry leaders around the clock so that some businesses can open as soon as Monday, April 27,” said Lee.
The governor said he knows small businesses have struggled tremendously during the shutdown, but that social distancing is what has slowed the spread of the virus.
A group of Tennessee doctors disagrees with Lee's approach, saying ending the Safer at Home Order will only give the virus more fuel and more places to spread.
