Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, the giant automotive plant under construction in Huntsville, will not begin production in the spring of 2021 as planned because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The plant, with an investment of $1.6 billion and the promise of creating 4,000 jobs, is one of the largest economic developments in Alabama history.
The delay is another blow to the crippled economy as the COVID-19 virus has essentially shut down the nation. Mazda Toyota has also been promoting hiring employees from Giles County to work at the plant.
