He was the oldest son of the late William Albert and Emma Lee Houston. He joins his sons David Alexander Houston Jr. and Daryle Lamont Houston Sr. in heaven. David Alexander Houston was born January 4, 1937 in Pulaski, TN. He was known for his quiet and gentle spirit. His loved ones affectionately called him different names: his daughter Kimberly called him Daddie and daughter Angelia called him Papa Dave - his grandchildren called him Grandpa, although not the same, each name represented the everlasting bond that he forged with his family.

In 1958, David graduated from Bridgeforth High School where he was a proud member of the Bridgeforth Blue Devil football team. As a child, David learned how to cook. He had a natural gift for turning ordinary food into a special meal and he often grilled for his family during family get togethers. After high school, David and Verna joined in holy matrimony June 16, 1963 and remained a loving couple for fifty-six years. Over the many years, they shared laughter, love and tears - he fondly called her Vern and Honey. To this blessed union four children were born. During their time together, they shared many wonderful trips. David and Vern spent most of their adult lives in Evanston, IL where he worked as a chef. When family members visited Illinois, David and Vern happily opened their doors and made them feel welcome. While David was in Illinois, he was also the second father to many children in the community, he fed and nurtured them. In his pastime, he enjoyed football (playing and later watching), bowling with his league, and fishing - a passion he passed on to his sons.

In 1998, David and Vern moved back to their hometown Pulaski, TN where he was a faithful member of the Taylor Street Church of Christ in Pulaski, TN. He provided service to his church as a treasurer, helped serve communion, and until is health failed, he gave freely of his time in any capacity to help his church. After David became ill, Verna was by his side tirelessly. It is through her devotion and care that his family was able to spend many more years with him before he left to join his sons. David was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. He leaves a legacy of love and laughter for his family to cherish. He will be missed dearly.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Mrs. Verna Braden Houston (Pulaski, TN), daughters: Kimberly Houston (John Diamond Sr) (Chicago, IL) and Angelia (Mark) Wilson (Skokie, Illinois); daughter-in-law Saundra Houston (Skokie, Illinois); sisters: Dorothy Hardison (Pulaski, TN), Marie (Gerald) Martin (Brentwood, TN), Sandra (Johnny) Allen (Inkster, MI); brothers: Burley (Helen) Houston (Pontiac, MI), Buford Houston (Chicago, IL); and sisters-in-law: Mary Drake (Lynnville, TN), Coma Marie Cotham (Pulaski, TN). He also leaves behind grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and friends.
