The Giles County Animal Shelter activity report was given to the County Commissioners this month.

Morgan Sutton, director of the shelter, reported 193 dogs were impounded, 14 dog bites, 54 adopted, 29 claimed and 72 were rescued. Nineteen dogs were euthanized because they were considered too aggressive to be adopted.

Another five were euthanized because they were sick or severely injured, while six were dead on arrival when they were taken to the shelter.

During six months of being opened, they have answered 158 calls in the county and 55 in the city of Pulaski, which has kept Randall Boaz, the animal control officer very busy.

Sutton said she was very thankful of the efforts of the Giles County Humane Association, a local rescue group, which helps the animal shelter.

GCHA has helped by offering comfort care up to $150 for animals that comes to the shelter injured and in need of veterinarian care, covers the full expenses of neutering/spaying three dogs a month from the shelter and donated $500 toward a winterization project to protect dogs from winds/rain and snow. The message line for the GCHA is 363-5455.
