The proposed budget approved by the Giles County School Board includes the possible $500,000 increase in maintenance of effort from the Giles County Commission and the proposed $200,000 contribution from the City of Pulaski.

 With the two proposed increases in revenues the 2019-20 budget was passed by the school board.

Giles County Director of Finance Beth Moore-Sumners estimated the school system’s fund balance in the 2019-20 budget to be $5.8 million. The school system fund balance has been used over the past few years to pay for major capital improvements to all county schools.

In other business the board accepted a bid for the replacement of the roof at the Transportation Garage.

 They voted unanimously not to purchase routing software for the transportation building.

Members approved to amend the current budget to send a GCHS student to the HOSA conference and competition in Orlando for $820.

 Also, unanimously voted to amend the current budget to include the purchase of text books for the vocational department at a cost of $2,400.

The board  recognized a donation of $59,049 by former Dollar General CEO Cal Turner for Minor Hill School to host the Read to Be Ready summer reading program again this year.

An agenda item not considered at the May meeting due to no motion to remove it from the table was a second reading of the policy that would require school system employees to notify their supervisor if they use any hemp-based or CBD products. The policy passed on first reading but second reading was tabled at a previous meeting.
