An Ardmore Police Officer was recognized with a proclamation from the Tennessee State House of Representative Speaker during the March joint meeting of the Ardmore, Tennessee, Board of Mayor and Aldermen and Ardmore, Alabama Town Council.

State Representative Clay Doggett, a republican from Pulaski, read the statement signed by Glen Casada, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, for  Michael Daniels'  actions in saving a motorist caught in high water under the railroad underpass on State Highway 7 caused by heavy rain.

Doggett said Officer Daniels of the Ardmore Police Department became a hero of the highest caliber when he sprang into action and saved an elderly woman in peril on February 20.

Daniels  had the blue emergency lights of his patrol car flashing and sounded an air horn on his automobile, but a white Nissan drove into the intersection and nose dived into the water, which was up to six feet deep.

The vehicle was floating toward the center of the underpass as it sank. Daniels ran along the side of the underpass and jumped into the water. He heard the elderly female driver frantically yelling for someone to help her and pulled the vehicle to an area where he gained footing.

When the driver could open her window, he pulled her from the vehicle and she was carried to safety, according to the proclamation.
