The Elkton City Council met for their regular monthly meeting.
Committee reports were discussed with Bill Bonjour reporting that Long Road was deteriorating but the county came and repaired the holes throughout the road.
Mayor Caldwell informed Bonjour about the requests he has made to patch several roads throughout Elkton, and that they would get to it as soon as they can.
Caldwell also reassured the board that the request he made to the Giles County Highway Department last year to repair the culvert on the Thompson's property was happening, but would not be until the fall because we are working around their schedule.
Alderman Payton Blade reported that Colas Mitchell has cut, baled, and hauled off hay from the leased property.
Alderman Bill Cary requested that they ask Tommy Pope to push up the brush at the wastewater plant around the trees to make bush hogging around that area easier for Mitchell.
Mayor Caldwell announced that the annual Tractor Show on July 4th has been canceled due to COVID-19 circumstances.
Next on the agenda, Jay Butler discussed the success of the softball event that took place recently at the park. Mayor Caldwell informs Butler that the board is working on funds for the park in the budget.
Mayor Caldwell explained that Elkton is also eligible to receive $41,674 in stimulus grant money. A resolution was passed to pave Ed McCormack Road and to purchase a new police car with the grant.
