Third shift team members at the General Motors facility in Spring Hill will have to wait longer than previously planned to return to work.
The employees on the third shift were originally scheduled to return to work on Sunday, June 21st, following the plant's extended closure due to the coronavirus pandemic, but this week, it was announced that the return would be pushed back.
"This delay and re-evaluation are due to the effects of coronavirus on the marketplace," said Michael Herron, UAW Local 1853 Chairman.
The plant's 900 third-shift workers were told last month that they would return to work on June 21st and continue the plant's late-night operations from 10 p.m. until 6:30 a.m.
First and second shift workers have since returned to work at the plant which has implemented strict guidelines to prevent the spread of illness.
The company-wide precautions include the implementation of a six-foot distance between as many workstations as possible. Additional fans have been installed to keep fresh air circulating through workspaces.
All employees must wear masks and face guards while on the manufacturing floor.
