The Ardmore City Council met in regular session last week.
Alderman Raymond Crabtree made a motion to approve the second reading of the 2019-2020 Budget Amendment Ordinance and the annual budget for the fiscal year.
Alderman Shane Emerson made a motion to approve the second reading of the 2020-2021 budget ordinance and adopting the annual budget and tax rate for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2020, and ending June 30, 2021.
Mayor Mike Magnusson informed the council of three library employees resigning their positions. Part-time employee Robbie Hayes resigned as of May 11, Shera Hunt is resigning June 10th, and Director Verlin Collins is scheduled to retire on June 30th.
The library board will advertise in Ardmore and surrounding counties as well as regionally for the position of director.
Alderman Paul Van Manen made a motion to hire two temporary part-time employees. The new employees will be Melissa Woodard from Elkmont and Jana Owens of Taft.
The council discussed the Governor's Local Government Support Grant which is a contract for Giles County and all five cities in the county.
The City of Ardmore will receive $57,000.00 in grant money for the paving of roads.
Giles County Road Commissioner Barry Hyatt gave his recommendations to the mayor and the streets to be paved are from the 4-way stop sign on Ardmore Ridge Road to Price Road, as well as Smith Avenue, and Ashton Lane.
Mayor Magnusson stated the total costs of paving will be $183,890.79 and the city will be responsible for the $126,890.79 additional cost.
The mayor and council discussed the additional amount with the amount owed on the backhoe and Maddox building into one loan with First National Bank at an interest rate of 2.75percent locked in for 12 years. The loan total will be approximately $237,000.00
Alderman Emerson made a motion to pave those specific roads, combine all loans, and borrow $237,000.00 and the vote was unanimous.
Mayor Magnusson informed the board that Rick's Barbecue will be opening soon.
Magnusson also stated that the old Whitt's Barbecue building on Main Street is being redone and will open soon as Hash It Out, a restaurant specializing in hash and potatoes.
