Legendary Tennessee football coach Johnny Majors has died at the age of 85. A university of Tennessee spokesperson confirmed this morning that the legendary coach has passed stating he was “dynamic on the field, fierce on the sidelines, and a distinguished Tennessean”.

While coaching the Vols, he led the team to wins over rival opponents like Alabama, Auburn, Notre Dame, and a big 1986 Sugar Bowl win over heavily favored Miami.

Coach Majors was from nearby Huntland, Tennessee and as a player he was the 1956 runner up to the Heisman Trophy behind Notre Dame’s Paul Hornung.

Coach Majors also guided the Pittsburgh Panthers to the 1976 College Football National Championship and helped many players to the NFL after playing for him at Tennessee. Coach Johnny Majors, dead at age 85.
