The first case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Giles and Lawrence County.

The Giles County announcement was made in a social media video address by Executive Melissa Greene who explained the case did not appear in Sunday's statewide update due to reporting deadlines, but expected the data to be released today (Monday) or Tuesday.

Lawrence County confirmed their first case Monday morning and officials there asked for people to stay inside.

Greene, EMA Director Jeremy Holley, and Pulaski Mayor Pat Ford urged city and county residents during WKSR Bonus Hour today (Monday) to continue to use social distancing and good hygiene practices to combat the virus' spread.

Greene said they do not know who the person with COVID-19 is or where they have been.

She reported Department of Health will question the sick person on where they have been, close contacts, and place of employment. From there the department will contact individuals who have been exposed.

Ford asked everyone to stay at home and if an individual has to get out don’t make it a family event.

Holley said if someone has a COVID-19 question to call his office at 931-363-1342
