A Lawrenceburg man was arrested following a foot chase from a local retailer after allegedly shoplifting a buggy full of merchandise.

According to reports, an officer with the Lawrenceburg Police Department responded to the Dollar General on South Locust Avenue in reference to a male subject who had taken several items without paying and was being verbally combative.

Upon arrival, the male had left and the officer was able to view footage of the suspect and was located walking near New Hope Apartments and grabbed his bags and ran from the officer.

The male identified as James Robert Vitagliano, charged at the officer several times during the pursuit and was eventually apprehended with the help of a good samaritan and taken into custody.

A total loss of merchandise was $255.10.

Vitagliano was transported to the Lawrence County Jail and charged with resisting arrest and shoplifting
