Giles County Executive Melissa Greene and Giles County Office of Emergency Management Director Jeremy Holley have released a video informing people in Giles County that local officials have been monitoring the Coronavirus since late December and early January.

Calls to county offices have increased, according to Greene, with the recent case of Coronavirus in Williamson County.

Holley said to wipe down the surfaces that are often contacted by the public, such as door handles, shopping carts, faucet knobs and toilet handles.”

He also stressed the importance of frequent hand washing and if washing is not available use hand sanitizer that kills 99.9 percent of germs.

“Last, but not least, if you’re sick, stay home,” Holley said. “Unless you’re seeking medical attention don’t go out in public if you’re sick. If your kids are sick, please notify your school.

Holley reminded anyone who is out in public to cover their noses and mouths when they sneeze or cough, adding that people should not touch their face, eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.

“These are things we should be doing every day,” he said. “Not just for Coronavirus. Currently flu and strep are much bigger problems locally than Coronavirus is.”
