Giles County Commissioners voted to support a letter of commitment as part of a grant application for building a storm shelter at the Giles County Agri Park.

A $1.2 million grant is sought for the project, and the letter of credit for $300,000 would cover the county’s matching share.

The grant will be sought through the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Giles County Office of Emergency Management.

Money would come from a hazard mitigation program, offered through FEMA.

The proposed concrete shelter would be built to withstand an EF4 tornado, and the approximately 80-by120-square-foot building would replace another building at the park.
