The city of Elkton gave permission to a rodeo and raise money to buy another police car during a December meeting.

During the meeting, Mayor Jimmy Dean Caldwell, thanked the Giles County Highway Department for clearing debris from culverts on Market Street and the board of mayor and aldermen for their support.

Passing a city ordinance to require culverts of a certain size to limit flooding also was suggested by Alderman Jim Lathrop.

Board members also passed a motion to have the county highway department investigate how to limit flooding in the City Hall and take bids on the cost of preventive measures.

Also, board members approved an annual agreement allowing the Giles County Highway Department to do work inside Elkton when asked. The county would be reimbursed for fuel, labor and materials.

The board was told that the Elkton firefighters attended two meetings and answered eight calls in November.

Elkton Police Chief Ike Braden explained to the board they had stopped two individuals for violating the financial responsibility law and one each for not following stop sign and move over laws.
