Ardmore board of Mayor and Aldermen agreed to begin paving some of the streets in the City.

After meeting with Giles County Road Commissioner Barry Hyatt, Steve Kelly and a Wright Paving representative reported that Smith Avenue from the apartments to Austin Street, Austin Whitt to Union Hill Road, Union Hill from Austin Whitt toward Main Street to the point paved by the State and a portion of Elk Street behind KFC to Hwy. 110 should be paved first.

Mayor Mike Magnusson explained that the Giles County Highway Department accepted paving bids for Giles County and that cities in the county can have work performed using the county bid.

Wright Paving, who won the Giles County bid, quoted $154,086.88 for the entire project.

Alderman Jason Sherman made a motion to approve the quote using the Giles County Highway Department's 2018-2019 bid and  Alderman Smith seconded.

Discussion continued with Alderman VanManen stating he did not think paving Austin Whitt was necessary. After further discussion, including discussion about ditches needing work, a problem with a tile and other areas in need of being paved, Aldermen Sherman, Spencer Smith, Emerson and Crabtree voted for the motion. Aldermen Hargrove and VanManen opposed.

Alderman Raymond Crabtree made a motion to pay for the paving from money given by the County for paving in 2018 from the general fund, $29,000.00 from State Street Aid and the balance from a Certificate of Deposit (CD).
