The Lynnville Mayor and Alderman approved water rate increase during the monthly board meeting.

Mayor Phillip Vandiver sent a letter to the public explaining the increase would be on the May water statements.

Rates in the city limit are $24.50 per 2,400 gallons up 50 cents and $7.29 per additional 1,000 gallons, up from $7.19.

Residents outside city limits,  the rate increase will be $28.50 per 2,400 gallons, up 50 cents, and $7.29 per additional 1,000 gallons, up from $7.19.

Also, during the meeting Sam Barnes and Chris McDougal was sworn in as reserve police officers.

According to Vandiver, both men will supplement efforts of Lynnville Police Chief Steve Jones and will continue to work their other jobs and patrol Lynnville on off time.

In other business, the board was told car washes will be held the next two weekends at Bank of Frankewing for Jonah Townsend's Eagle Scout Project to purchase 2 Automatic External Defibrillators.

Both devices will be given to the Town of Lynnville and Lynnville Methodist Church.

Townsend is a member of Boy Scout Troop 107.
