For a look behind the scenes in the Giles County Sheriff's Department, you're invited to attend the Citizen's Academy Session 3, according to Chief Deputy Tommy Chapman. The academy introduces you to the workings of the department and jail, including all units within the department.

There is no cost to attend. Classes begin Monday, August 14th, and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for seven consecutive Monday nights in the Sheriff's Department at 200 Thomas Gatlin Drive, just off Mines Road.

Class topics range from how the Sheriff's Department conducts daily operation with your tax dollars, the administration, jail operation, to include a tour of the facilities, criminal and drug investigations unit. Students will see how patrol functions, which includes simulated car stops that students participate in as an officer and a violator and you'll see Deputy issued equipment and weapons.

Seats are limited so if you're interested in attending, call Jamie Griffin at 363-3505 for an application.

If you attended one of the other sessions and missed a class, you can make that class up in this session.
