Henry “Hank” Vernon Smith Jr. of Ethridge died Monday at Vanderbilt Medical Center. He was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and was 62 years old.

He served for the Huntsville Fire Department, where he was Captain,for more than 38 years, was  a member of the Poplar Hollow Black Powder Association, and was a member of the Mt. Moriah Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Vernon and Alice Roslynn Brown Smith Sr.; and brother, George H. Smith.

Visitation will be Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Mt. Moriah Church with funeral services following at 1 o'clock. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Celia Smith of Ethridge; brothers: Kenneth S. Melton and wife Marilyn of Georgia and Gerald A. Melton and wife Mollie of Virginia.
