The Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street traveling exhibit “Crossroads: Change in Rural America” kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Barton Art Gallery in the Gault Fine Arts Center at Martin Methodist College.

The “Crossroads” exhibit examines the evolving landscape of rural America and will be on view through March 15. Visitors are welcome to enjoy this free exhibition during walk-in hours from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays. Groups are encouraged to book a visit in advance for any day of the week.

Americans have relied on rural crossroads for generations. These places where people gather to exchange goods, services and culture and to engage in political and community discussions are an important part of the cultural fabric.

Wolf Gap Education Outreach, Martin Methodist College and the surrounding community were chosen by Humanities of Tennessee to host “Crossroads” as part of the Museum on Main Street program
