A Lincoln County woman has been arrested and charged with Tenncare drug fraud.

Amy Wharton, age 40, of Fayetteville, was arrested after an indictment accused her of knowingly using Tenncare benefits to obtain anti-anxiety medication, then selling a portion of it to a confidential informant.

The arrest is a result of a joint effort with the Office of Inspector General and the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department.

If convicted, Wharton could face penalties up to a maximum of 12 years in prison.

The case is being prosecuted by District Attorney General Robert Carter of Lincoln County.
