The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday marks the 25th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy.

The day is observed each year on the third Monday in January and is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

The day in Pulaski will begin Monday with a Unity March assembly at 10:45 a.m. on the north side of the courthouse.

The march will begin at 11 a.m. and will follow a route around the courthouse square and several blocks to Bridgeforth Middle School Cafeteria.

The traditional Evening Celebration will be held at 6 pm at Matthew's House of Praise on 128 Chestnut Street in Pulaski with Jeremiah Gardner as special speaker.
