Giles County Sheriff Kyle Helton posted today (Monday) on social media for the public to be aware there is an increase in telephone scams.

His office has received numerous complaints with the most recent involving a caller stating that a relative is in jail and are requesting bail money.

Phone scams come in many forms, but they tend to make similar promises and threats, or ask you to pay certain ways.

It is never a good idea to give out sensitive information such as Social Security number to someone who calls unexpectedly, even if they say they are with the Social Security Administration or IRS.

For questions and information regarding this activity call Giles County Sheriff's office at (931) 363-3505.
