Qualifying for Giles County Election has ended except one position in the August 6th general election.

Deadline to qualify as a candidate for county positions passed December 12th and to withdraw from the ballot passed December 19th.

The deadlines for county candidates moved up this year to accommodate the March 3rd Presidential Preference Primary and Giles County Republican Primary.

In the Giles County Assessor of Property race, 5 candidates have qualified. The candidates are Tracy Woodard Armstrong, Carl Evans, Tommy Gowan, incumbent Tommy Hyatt and Nell Maultsby.

Giles County Superintendent of Roads Barry Hyatt is running unopposed for his position. All qualifiers are running as independents. The Giles County General Election will August 6th 2020.

One person has qualified for three county commission seats on the ballot due to commissioner resignations or death. Joseph Sutton, who was appointed to the late Danny Ray Cobb’s seat in the Sixth District qualified as a candidate to serve the remainder of Cobb’s term.

No one qualified to serve the remainder of former commissioner Shelly Goolsby’s term. Harold Brooks was appointed to fill Goolsby’s seat until the August 2020 election.

The qualifying deadline has been extended for candidates seeking to serve the remainder of former commissioner Louise Faulkner’s term. Faulkner resigned from her Seventh District seat recently citing health concerns.

The qualifying deadline for candidates seeking Faulkner’s seat is noon Wednesday, January 8th. The deadline to withdraw as a candidate for Faulkner’s seat is noon January 11th

The voter registration deadline for the March 3rd Presidential Preference Primary is February 3rd.

Early voting for the March 3rd Presidential Preference Primary will be February 12th through February 25th.
