Choosing a county attorney could be decided at the Monday’s Giles County Commission meeting.

The commission has been trying to determine if a conflict of interest exists because County Commissioner Terry Harwell’s wife is employed in the office of current county attorney Chris Williams.

The issue has been sent back to Legislative Committee multiple times over the past few months.

In Giles County, the county attorney is appointed to a one-year term by the county commission. If chosen Monday, Williams’ term would run through Sept. 30, 2020.

Williams has remained county attorney until commissioners reach a decision.

During the 9 a.m. meeting, the commission will hear reports from Finance Director and consider a resolution authorizing the approval of surety bonds for other county officials and county employees required to have bonds and a resolution to raise fees for the Giles County Ambulance Service.

The Commission’s Ambulance Service Committee has recommended raising seven of the service’s fees to meet state minimum rates of reimbursement.

Economic Development Director David Hamilton and Mae Frances Britton will also address the commission.
