Three Tennessee Highway Patrol officers visited WKSR Bonus Hour Wednesday morning to interact with the audience about safety on the upcoming holiday season.

Lieutenant Chris Dye, Sergeant Chris Hannah and Trooper Matt McCord said if people would comply with the law then they would not have to enforce it.

They said District Commander Wayne Sellers has a safety concern in the 11 counties they cover.

Charged with increasing public awareness of highway safety issues, the Special Programs Unit conducts a wide range of activities aimed at saving lives and reducing injuries on Tennessee roadways.

Knowledgeable about numerous traffic safety topics and techniques, safety education lieutenants in each THP district are assigned to the Special Programs Unit to meet with schools, civic organizations, businesses, and others to improve highway safety throughout the state.

During a phone call, the officers were asked if it was a law with people driving in the left lane on a roadway especially Highway 64 East. Trooper McCord answered the caller that it is a law against anyone driving slow in the left lane because it is only a passing lane. Phone lines were busy asking questions and the officers said it was a pleasure to answer each caller.

The Troopers said the worse thing about their job is to knock on someone's door to tell them their loved one did not survive an accident.

WKSR has invited the officers to return December 19th at 8:30 a.m. to discuss safety and issues with the audience. Email questions to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call WKSR that morning.
