A retired officer from the Maury County Sheriff’s Department has been named the new Lynnville’s Chief of Police.

Mike Diaz was sworn into office replacing Steve Jones, who resigned earlier this year.

According to Lynnville Mayor Phillip Vandiver, two reserve officers will continue with the city.

Vandiver said Diaz will be a good asset to the town and will enforce the law fairly and relate to the people.

Also, during the Lynnville Board’s monthly meeting, former alderman Patty Patterson and Sandy White were sworn into office by Vandiver to replace Alderman Richard Lamb, who retired, plus another vacancy on the board.

Patterson and White had talked about serving as alderman and Vandiver said he accepted their offer.

Other discussion was work continuing on the Reid Community Theatre where heavy rains had caused the roof to leak and items were removed from the building.

Besides the library, roofs at the fire hall, community room and city hall also have been repaired or replaced.

The board approved an ordinance to borrow approximately $90,000 from the Utility District’s water fund to pay for roof repairs on the city buildings
