Monday is a federal holiday honoring military veterans who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

Giles County will observe Veterans Day Monday at 11am at the gazebo on North side of the courthouse to hear Brigadier General Ryan Britton speak.

According to Giles County Veteran Service Officer Barry Alsup, all local veteran’s service organizations will take part in the program.

In addition to the program, the Giles County Baptist Association is sponsoring a breakfast for veterans at the First National Bank from 8:30 until 10:30 a.m.

The American Legion is having stew for veterans at the legion building immediately following the Veterans Day program.

James Malone, Veterans of Foreign Wars commander, and his sons will be placing American flags around town.

Alsup said at the end of the Veterans Day program a drawing will be held for a veterans quilt made by the Quirky Quilters of Pulaski.

“Some of our local restaurants will also be feeding veterans free of charge on Veterans Day,” Alsup added.

Closings in the county on Veteran’s Day will be Pulaski Electric System, Senior Citizen’s building, all banks, Pulaski Post Office, and City of Pulaski along with Street and Sanitation Department. Monday’s garbage will be collected with the normal Tuesday route.

All Giles County Schools will be opened Monday.
