Giles County Commissioners approved Monday for the Giles County Sheriff’s Department to use Numi Financial in the jail system and also upgrade the departments software.

Numni Financials is a debit card program linked to a nationally known company and will make things easier on the sheriff’s department and on inmates upon release.

When inmates are in jail, their possessions are held, including their money, which includes money inmates might earn through jail programs.

According to the Sheriff's Department, when a prisioner leaves the building they are given what is rightfully theirs.

The department also received approval to continue looking at a different computer server as part of plans to upgrade the department’s software.

According to the Sheriff's IT department, the update would allow the department to use the latest identification equipment in running checks during stops and link with other technology and other departments.
