The new Giles County Economic Development director begins his duties on June 1.

David Hamilton, worked five years for the Paris-Henry County Industrial Committee through 2018, was endorsed unanimously by the Giles County EDC.

According to Bobby Wynne, EDC committee representative, the committee checked Hamilton’s performance at the last five places he worked, going back to 1988.

“All references said they would be happy to have him back,” Wynne said. “I think he will fit in very well.”

Hamilton's salary will be approximately $70,000 a year, and he agreed to work without health insurance, Wynne said.

 “I look forward to working with all government and business leaders to grow the economy in Giles County,” Hamilton said.

 From 2000-2013, Hamilton was president and CEO of the Dickson County Chamber of Commerce and, from 1992-2000, the executive director of Obion County Industrial Development Corporation.

He graduated from Union City High School, the University of Tennessee at Martin, Jackson State Community College and the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute.

 Among companies Hamilton helped locate in communities where he has worked are Bridgestone APM (Japan), Dal-Tile, largest tile plant in the U.S., Tyson Foods , Metrican Stamping and  Bavarian Polymers .
