Now that spring is in full swing for southern Middle Tennessee, local authorities remind Giles County residents that with warmer temperatures can come dangerous weather.

The seasons of March, April and May are considered to be peak months for tornadoes with records from the National Weather Service indicating that 66 percent of tornadoes occur within the three month period.

Officials say  it  time to prepare for springtime storm weather. Severe weather can bring lightning, flooding, and in the worst cases, tornadoes.

According to the weather service, Giles County has been the site of a total of 16 tornadoes since 1950.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend residents be prepared with fresh batteries and a battery-operated  radio, or internet enabled device to listen to the latest emergency weather information.
