Every member of Tennessee's congressional delegation urged Washington for a quick approval of Governor Bill Lee's request for a major declaration for the state of Tennessee including Giles County following recent severe weather.

According to Governor Lee,  he sent a formal request to Washington recently requesting a major disaster declaration to gain federal funding for counties impacted by February's flooding and severe storms.

Since the start of the severe storms in February,   83 of Tennessee's 95 counties have reported levels of flood damage and severe weather impacts, according to the governor's office.

The public assistance program request includes Giles and Marshall Counties.

Governor Lee said the severe flooding has left many Tennessee jurisdictions unsure about how to fund the unexpected need to repair infrastructure and pay for their emergency measures.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation also  received $10 million in emergency relief funds from the Federal Highway Administration for repairs to Tennessee's state highway network. TDOT estimated damages from February's storms to total more than $83 million.
