Tala Nicole Verley, 27, of Gurley, Alabama was indicted by the Giles County Grand Jury this month with the October shooting death of Ardmore, Alabama, resident James Eric Smith, 28.

Verley was also indicted for possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine — in the amount of .5 grams or more; possession of a .380 caliber handgun with the intent to go armed during the commission of or attempt to commit a dangerous felony; and altering, destroying or concealing evidence with the intent to impair its availability as evidence.

 According to the Giles County Sheriff’s Department, charges stem from an incident that occurred Oct. 6, 2018, at 776 Rolin Hollow Road.

GCSD Investigator Timmy Scott is the lead investigator. No additional information on the incident was released.

Verley has been located and taken into custody by the U.S. Marshal’s office and extradited to the Giles County Sheriff’s Department (GCSD) from Madison County, Alabama.

 She remains in the Giles County Jail on charges of second-degree murder; manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of methamphetamines; possession of a firearm used in a dangerous felony; and fabricating/tampering with evidence. Her bond is set at $250,000.

 She is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court March 18.
