The Ardmore Board of Mayor and Aldermen authorized the city to apply for a Community Development Block Grant.

The February action authorizes the city to apply for a $318,000 grant to assist in replacing old, leaky sewer pipes.

So much water is getting in the system that sanitary sewers are overflowing, and manholes are surging, according to information in support of getting the grant.

The South Central Tennessee Development District is working with the city on the grant application.

In other business: Board members agreed to buy $13,700 of equipment from the Booster Club, which it had bought for the park, where the city is administering programs. A John Deere Gator for $4,500 and a field machine for $4,000-$5,000 were the most expensive machines.

A request by former Alderman Ken Crosson, who had asked the city for an addition to the Veterans Museum which opened last year, failed to get a second and was not voted on.

Making a three-way stop at Coral and Sims streets was approved, along with putting two street lights on Pleasant Hill Road and another on State Highway 53 for a business. Several replacement street signs were also approved.

Police Chief Jimmy Kennedy told Board members that a $5,000 donation was received from citizens to help buy eight ballistic vests for the department.

A financial report was accepted that showed $98,352 of revenues for the city. Approximately $36,898 of local sales tax, $11,808 of local beer tax, $8,888 of state sales tax and $7,870 of liquor tax receipts were reported.

Also, Board members approved buying a temporary fence for $7,724 at the ballpark for use during tournaments to make sizes of ball fields comply with tournament standards.
