As the flooded banks of Duck River began to recede today (Tuesday), majority of the Columbia residents who evacuated their homes over the weekend were back at home.

Columbia Fire & Rescue, which dismantled its mobile emergency command center inside the Armory Recreation Center, said few homes were flooded by rising waters, but businesses on Riverside Drive remain partially submerged.

The Duck River was at a height of 41 feet at noon Monday, which still was considered a major flood stage.

The National Weather Service reported that Duck River’s floodwaters would continue to fall, and the region’s flood warnings were expected to be downgraded to flood advisories and later canceled.

The waters were expected to fully recede by Thursday.
