A state House subcommittee has advanced a bill that would require all Tennessee’s school districts including Giles County to establish a dress code for visitors to the Volunteer State’s public schools.

The measure, intended to keep visitors from showing up at public schools wearing inappropriate attire, using foul language and carrying out other inappropriate behaviors.

The parent dress code is set to go before the Senate Education Committee on March 27.

If the code passes a full vote this spring, the bill could go into affect across Tennessee as early as next year.

State Representatives are telling school districts to come up with a baseline level of behavior for any person who steps on campus, whether it’s a parent, vendor or guest.

The bill was filed after receiving complaints from parents stating that other parents would enter schools wearing sexually suggestive or gang-inspired clothing.
