Giles County  residents are encouraged to prepare for more  heavy rain that is about to hit Middle Tennessee, taking precautions against potential flooding and other rainwater damage.

Schools and Senior Citizen Building are closed today (Wednesday) because of flooding and water across the highways.

According to Giles County Road Superintendent Barry Hyatt there are roads in Giles County that are under water. The Giles County Road Crews have been out and all of those roads have High Water signs placed near the trouble spots.

Road Superintendent Hyatt reminds all motorists to be very careful and to pay attention to the weather and the road signs as the ground in Giles County is saturated, and there’s more rain on the way.

According to the National Weather Service, the region is expected to receive up to 5 inches of rain this week, with Pulaski identified as one of the area most prone to potential flooding. Two main blasts of rain are expected to hit mid-week, the first started Tuesday night through today (Wednesday). The second is expected to hit sometime over the weekend.

A heavier band is expected to come in with today's (Wednesday)  rain, increasing the flood threat level.

Some showers could occur Thursday and Friday, but the next round of intense rainfall is possible later in the weekend. The total rainfall accumulation from the two blasts is expected to bring a potential storm of up to 6 inches or more in some areas.

Emergency personnel are encouraging local residents to take precautions to prepare for potential flood waters. More than 6 inches of standing water or four inches of moving water can be damaging to most vehicles, according to The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA).
