Much like their neighbors to the North in Giles County, The season of giving is underway, and recent studies show Limestone and nearby Madison Countians to be among those leading the generosity pack in Alabama.

Financial Technology Company SmartAsset reviewed tax data from 2016 to determine which Americans were doing the most when it came to donating. In Alabama, Limestone County was the seventh-most generous county with 52.8 percent of the population making charitable donations. Madison County ranked third on the list with upwards of 55% of the county making charitable donations.

The major factor studied was the amount of net income donated. SmartAsset determined this by subtracting the total taxes paid, mortgage interest, mortgage points and mortgage insurance payments from a county's total income to determine the county's net income.
