The Giles County Board of Commissioners met Monday morning with a short agenda.

Jessie Parker of the chamber of commerce office reported that   25 million dollars in tourism money was spent here in 2017, which is a 6 percent increase over the previous year. She said that had a direct impact of one point one million dollars on the tax base for the county.

Bethany Shockney of the Economic Development Commission also addressed the commission saying Murco, and Integrity Injection Molding were planning expansions in the Industrial Park South which will include some additional jobs.

A grant for one million dollars for industrial site prep work has been given by TVA for a 100,000 square foot site preparation on lot 5 in the park. The county will fund 250,000 dollars, and the city will also fund 250,000 dollars for the work. Because there is interest from several companies in the industrial park, it was decided to move ahead with the appropriation and get the work started as soon as possible.

The Giles County Sheriff’s department also received 67,500 dollars to purchase and equip new vehicles.
