A request for $250,000 to help develop part of Dan Speer Industrial Park South will come before the Giles County Commission at its Monday meeting

Because Toyota-Mazda plans to locate a large manufacturing plant off I-65 between Huntsville and Athens, Ala., Giles County is considered likely to attract additional growth from suppliers and factory workers who may relocate, Giles Economic Development Commission Director Bethany Shockney is also scheduled to speak at the meeting.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, which encourages business and industrial growth in states in its service area, and the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development have been very helpful in working with Giles County.

Commissioners also will be asked to approve money to buy and outfit three vehicles that can be used by the sheriff’s department, which has several vehicles with high mileage.

The sheriff’s department is adding enough student resource officers to have one at each school. Officers will be hired as they complete training.

The Budget Committee also recommended spending just over $1 million for education capital projects recommended by the school board. Almost $800,000 is budgeted for building improvements.

The Giles County Commission will meet at 9:00am Monday upstairs in the courthouse and the public is encouraged to attend.
