Tennessee Education Commissioner Candice McQueen said Monday that Tennessee’ 2017-18 high school graduation rate was 89.1 percent, the highest on record for the state.

The Tennessee Department of Education announced more than 56 percent of the districts’ high schools saw their graduation rates improve in the state.

The graduation rate for Giles County is also at an all-time high with 92.5 percent of students graduating. The rate has continued to rise for the past several years.

In other area schools Columbia Central High School, Mt. Pleasant High School and Northfield Academy all earned rates below the state average, graduating 86.31 percent, 84.91 percent and 75 percent of students, respectively.

A total of 106 of the state’s 147 school districts reported graduation rates at or above 90 percent, an increase from 98 districts in the prior year.

Twenty-two schools across 15 districts have graduation rates of 100 percent in Tennessee.
