Officials with Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama recently announced its Huntsville plant had built Toyota’s first advanced four-cylinder engine as part of a new line announced last year, according to a press release.

In September 2017, Toyota Alabama announced a $106 million investment to build the next generation of engines using Toyota New Global Architecture. The project provided a complete replacement of the 4-cylinder engine line at the only Toyota plant in the world to build 4-cylinder, V-6 and V-8 engines under one roof.

Through four expansions since 2003, Toyota Alabama has grown from 300 employees to more than 1,400. The new production line added 50 new jobs and increased total plant investment to nearly $1 billion.

Construction continues on the Toyota/Mazda plant in nearby Limestone County with industrial suppliers expected to locate in the southern middle Tennessee north Alabama area.
