Additional state funds to increase school safety will continue to help keep schools safer across the State Of Tennessee.

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Department of Education Commissioner Candice McQueen announced this week that the state will spend $35 million on additional safety for the state’s public school students.

The $35 million will be split among all 147 school districts across the state to address the vulnerabilities and risks.

For example, locally, Maury County will receive a total of $294,690 through the program.

According to the National Association Center of School Resource Officers and the National Center for Education Statistics the number of crimes against students have plummeted by 80 percent since 1992, much due to increased school security programs like this and School Resource Officers.
