James Tony Shires of Pulaski died Tuesday at St. Thomas West in Nashville. He was born in Columbia and was 76 years old.


He was a member of East Hill Church of Christ, graduated from Columbia High School and the University of Tennessee Knoxville with honors and a degree in forestry. He retired from the State of Tennessee Forestry in 1999.


Memorial donations are suggested to Columbia Academy, 1101 West 7th Street, Columbia, TN. 38401.


Visitation will be tomorrow (Thursday) from 4:00pm until 8:00pm at Bennett-May & Pierce Funeral Home and Crematory and Friday from 10:00am until the funeral service at 11:00am in the Chapel with Bro. Larry Benderman, Bro. Terry Cordell and Bro. Johnathan Burns officiating.


Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Columbia, TN.


He is survived by his Wife, Mary Louise Bone Shires of Pulaski, Sons, Dan and wife Amanda Shires of Columbia, and David Shires of Pulaski, 4 Grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, Brother, Michael Tidwell Shires of Columbia, several nephews, nieces and many friends also survive.
