Horace Clement Bass died on Tuesday.  He was born in Big Rock, TN

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret Long Bass, a son, Eddie Bass and wife Joan, three daughters, Betsy Miller and husband Bob and Linda Wolf and husband Ron, and Mary Harper and husband Matt. Seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

He graduated from Giles County High School, and attended Martin Methodist College, and Vanderbilt Divinity School.  Later he was appointed Commissioner of the Department of Human Services for Tennessee. In 1985 he purchased Capital City Mattress and developed a line called Fluffo.

A masonic service will be held Thursday, at 3:30pm and visitation will follow from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home.  Visitation is Friday, from 10:00am until 11:00am with the funeral service to follow at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church Pulaski.  A private family burial will be held on Friday, at 9:00am.  On Saturday there will be a visitation at Belle Meade United Methodist Church at 10:00am followed by a memorial service at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Martin Methodist College, Pulaski and Miriam’s Promise, Scarritt Hall, 1008 19th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37212.
