Lawrenceburg Police have arrested a sex offender for violating the registry law.

Police department reports state officers were called to a Fifth Street residence Friday about a man and woman living in an abandoned house.

42-year-old Ricky Gene Burks told authorities that he and the woman were staying at that location because they were homeless.

Police told Burks he did not have permission to live in the home, and the property is within 1,000 feet of a school, making it unsuitable for a sex offender to reside.

Burks was charged with violating the sex offender registry law. He is being held on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in general sessions court Aug. 4.
