Residents of Tennessee can order free seeds to help boost the Monarch butterfly population.

The free seeds, Red and Common Milkweed, are offered through the Tennessee Department Of Transportation Pollinator Habitat Program’s Project Milkweed.

The program stated that since 1992, the Monarch butterfly population and their host plant, the milkweed, has declined by 90%.

Tennesseans are asked to plant the seeds before October 15th to ensure successful germination.
