The Giles County Commission had a lengthy session earlier this week.

The item that garnered the most attention was public comments on the beer distance resolution.

In short, a restaurant that receives a state liquor license AND is within 600 feet of a church or school, cannot sell beer, but they can sell margaritas, or liquor, or mixed drinks.

The reasoning behind the decision is the state liquor license does not have a distance restriction but county beer permit does, and states a business cannot sell beer if they’re within 600 feet of a church, or school.

The vote on the resolution failed 8 votes for, 13 votes against.
